Fungal Nails

What are Fungal Nails?

Fungal nails, medically known as onychomycosis, are a common condition that occurs when a fungus infects one or more of the nails on the feet or, less commonly, the hands. This condition can start as a small, seemingly insignificant spot under the nail but can lead to more serious issues if not treated.

Fungal nail infections are more common in toenails than in fingernails and can affect part of the nail, the entire nail, or several nails. Common types of fungi that cause nail infections include dermatophytes, yeast, and molds.
